City of Plantation is Hiring an ENGINEER II Near Plantation, FL


This is an exempt position involving general civil engineering including the administration of capital improvement projects, review of private development drawings, and assistance with various programs and procedures for the Engineering Department. The employee in this classification exercises initiative and independent judgment within engineering standards and departmental policies. Work is performed under the direction of the Department Head. Work may be reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation for attainment of desired objectives.
Employees are hired as AT WILL employees that serve at the pleasure of the City and may be terminated at any time with or without cause.Provides project management for City projects including scoping, budget preparation, planning, surveying, design, permitting, bidding and contract administration. Makes preliminary recommendations on purchasing decisions.
 
Reviews drawings for site plans, plats, site data records, engineering drawings for paving, grading, drainage, utility installations and related items.
 
Performs plan reviews for the issuance of engineering permits.
 
Confers with, advises and responds to engineers, architects, contractors, developers and the public on issues pertaining to the Engineering Department.
 
Provides assistance in the administration of the City's stormwater management and community rating system programs.
 
Provides assistance in the administration of the City's Neighborhood Traffic Management Program.
Provides assistance in the administration of traffic engineering related matters affecting roadways in the City, including Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) design.
 
Reviews engineering reports, testing results and other related documentation for compliance with department standards.
 
Ensures compliance with the City code and procurement policies and procedures by reviewing and monitoring procurements conducted by any designee, department or official.
Attends evening public meetings when required.
 
Performs field inspections as required.
 
Performs related work as required and as directed.Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering applicable to design, drafting, construction and field inspections.
 
Knowledge of standards, current literature and sources of information for the plan review of private developments.
 
Ability to perform complex engineering computations and make recommendations on issues related to civil engineering.
 
Knowledge and skill in the use of Bentley Microstation CADD software.
 
Ability to review and evaluate engineering reports and related documentation for compliance with Department standards. Examples include, but not limited to, stormwater design calculations and traffic impact studies/reports.
 
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in written form.
Ability to comprehend, interpret and apply City Code of Ordinances to plan review, design, etc.
 
Ability to express ideas and communicate clearly and effectively.
 
Ability to establish and maintain a positive and effective working relationship with Engineering Department staff, other City employees, City officials and the general public.
 
Ability to operate a City vehicle and possess the required license.
 
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
 
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or closely related field. A minimum of four (4) years working experience in the field of civil engineering. Registration as a professional engineer in the State of Florida or acquire licensure within twelve (12) months of employment. Experience in the field of traffic engineering is particularly desirable.
 
This is a designated 'Recovery' classification in the City's Emergency Operations Plan and will require the employee occupying this position to work for declared emergencies. Attendance at National Incident Management System (NIMS) training at the appropriate level is mandatory.
